Counseling Services

People sometimes encounter difficult situations or crises in their lives and often benefit from the professional counseling services that are available at the Fleet & Family Support Center (FFSC). Counseling contributes to personal readiness by providing the opportunity to develop emotional awareness and problem-solving skills that can reduce stress in the workplace or in personal relationships.

Our Fleet & Family Support Center is staffed with highly qualified, licensed counselors who provide short-term counseling for active duty service members, spouses, dependents, and retirees. Each of the counselors holds a masters or doctorate degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Psychology. They are fully credentialed to provide confidential counseling and are available to assist you with your concerns.

Individual, Marriage, Family & Child Counseling

Clinical Counseling at the Fleet & Family Support Center is based on the best scientific evidence of models and research; it is supported by our nurturing environment and well-educated service providers. Our office provides individual, marriage and family counseling services – giving our clients the opportunity to achieve their personal best.

Seeking help in the face of personal, family, and psychological troubles requires courage. It is crucial that you seek this help with a trustworthy and competent advocate. At the Fleet & Family Support Center, we strive to support and empower our clients in their journey.

Counseling for Children

Military children are incredibly resilient, especially with dealing with the demands of the military lifestyle. However, children sometimes have difficulty coping with the stress of a parent's deployment, divorce, moving or other significant changes or experiences they encounter.

The Fleet & Family Support Center is staffed with children's counselors that can help children and families navigate through these difficult times.

Fleet & Family Support Center Counselors support active duty military members, retirees, their children and families in dealing with a wide range of child-related concerns such as:

  • Discipline Problems
  • School Behavior Problems
  • Anger Management
  • Social Withdrawal
  • Witness to Domestic Violence
  • Child Abuse or Neglect
  • Grief & Loss
  • Divorce Concerns
  • Deployment
  • Coping with Change
     

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling is available for children from preschool age through high school.
 

Family Counseling

Family and professionals work together utilizing the family's strengths to find creative solutions to problems.
 

Parent Consultations

Parents and therapists work together to define issues and find answers to children's problems.
 

Education & Prevention

Counselors are available to consult with staff, commands, daycare providers, and parent groups.
 

Positive Parenting Classes

Positive Parenting is a 10-week class, where parents learn specific techniques to avoid hassles such as fighting, eating, chores, motivation, homework, sharing and more. This fun and lively class will teach parents discipline techniques that will promote children's:

  • Self-esteem
  • Responsibility
  • Problem-solving Skills
  • Self-discipline

Group Education & Support

Deployment Support Groups for Children

These groups help children understand their parents' deployment and provide an opportunity to express their concerns and learn age-appropriate coping skills. Groups are offered in schools where there are a high number of Navy Family members.

Living Intentionally, Fully and Effectively (L.I.F.E.)

This 10-week support group is a place where women can connect with other women to share their journey of personal growth. This group will teach women to:

  • Improve their self-esteem
  • Build healthier relationships
  • Better understand and control their moods
  • Express themselves assertively and respectfully
  • Have a positive outlook
  • Gain problem-solving skills
  • Face their fears
  • Reduce stress

Survivors Overcoming Assault & Rape (SOAR)

This group is a 10-week support group for adult women, 18 and over, who are survivors of sexual assault and rape. This group will address ways to aid in the healing process, including:

  • Coping
  • Regaining trust
  • Strengthening intimate relationships
  • Personal empowerment
