Mount St. Helens Climb Registration Deadline

Sunday, May 5-Monday, May 6

You must be registered in or completed Avalanche 101 and Ice Axe Skills offered through MWR. Although strenuous, this non-technical climb is suitable for people in good physcial condition who are comfortable scrambling on steep, rugged terrain. 

Avalanche 101
6-8 p.m., Thursdays, Jan. 24, Feb. 21, & March 7 
Convergence Zone Multipurpose Room
Learn about winter back-country dangers, avalanche avoidance techniques, use of safety equipment, proper winter wear, and how to use an avalanche transceiver. This class is a prerequisite for mountaineering trips and Ice Axe Arrest Classes. This is an informational class and not a certification class.  $6 pp (Ages 10+)

Ice Axe Skills 
7 a.m.-7 p.m., Saturdays, Jan. 26, Feb. 23, & March 9
In preparation for our spring and summer summit trips, two classes are required: Avalanche Awareness and Ice Axe Skills. Ice Axe skills are used in a mountaineering environment to allow you to travel safely to your destination. Should you slip or fall, you will learn how to arrest (stop) yourself and come to a safe and efficietn stop without aid of ropes or other devices.  $34, ages 14& up. (Minor must have parent/guardian present).
