Recreation Assistant

Location: Naval Air Station Whidbey Island - Convergence Zone 

Pay Grade: NF-0189-02

This position provides quality customer service to all eligible patrons. Employee privileges include access to base facilities such as gyms, recreation centers, restaurants, and discount tickets to sporting and entertainment events.

Brief Description of Duties: This position is located in a Recreation Facility administered by Fleet & Family Readiness Division. Incumbent will be assigned primarily to the Convergence Zone to provide direct customer service to patrons using the facility. Responsibilities may include greeting customers, and refer telephone calls, provide information regarding the facility and programs. Incumbent assists with planning, coordinating, and execution of classes, and special events. Incumbent monitors programs for a multi-station customer facility that may include, but is not limited to a computer area, gaming area, movie/TV room, reading area, bowling lanes, children’s play area, multipurpose rooms, and small snack bar. May be required to drive an 8 or 15 passenger van, keep trip records, participant counts, and custody of equipment. Distribute information. Responsible for collection and safeguarding of any funds that may be collected as a result of a fee or change. Assist in day to day cleaning of equipment and facility and other related duties as assigned. Incumbent may be assigned to work in the Paintball Program. The incumbent may provide oversight to activities and necessary services to authorized patrons, including general information on the use of equipment. Duties to include equipment and field maintenance.

Qualification Requirements: Incumbent must have one-year practical work experience including direct customer service or experience with data entry, word processing, internet, e-mail, and at least one-year experience handling cash and utilizing point of sale system. Ability to perform basic mathematical computations and communicate effectively and courtesy, using proper English both verbally and in writing. Must be able to follow verbal and written directions, and present a neat and clean appearance.

Conditions of Employment: Successful completion of National Agency (NACI) Background Check required. A valid state driver’s license and High School Diploma or equivalent. Must be able to obtain and maintain food handler’s certification, CPR and First Aid within 90 days of hire. Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays as this is a flexible schedule position and schedule will vary. Work may require climbing in and around equipment, moving towable equipment and organization of seasonal equipment and supplies.
